Two people were killed and 13 others injured, among them several children, in a fire in the Italian city of Lucca, according to ANSA.

Firefighters carried out a rescue operation at the scene, pulling multiple people to safety, including a baby who was among those saved from the blaze.

Emergency response under way

The scale of the casualties, with more than a dozen people hurt alongside the two fatalities, points to a fire that affected a significant number of residents or occupants at the location. Emergency services responded to contain the blaze and evacuate those still inside.

Authorities had not yet detailed the cause of the fire or the exact circumstances that led to the high number of casualties. The condition of the injured, including the children involved, was not immediately specified.
