Trump Says Ukraine-Russia Conflict Should Be Settled Before Winter

US President Donald Trump said he wants to see the conflict between Russia and Ukraine settled before winter sets in, as the war between the two countries continues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously acknowledged that the coming winter would be "very difficult" for Ukraine, pointing to the strain the conflict continues to place on the country's infrastructure and population.

Trump's comments add to a series of statements from US officials expressing urgency about reaching a resolution to the war, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has since caused significant casualties and displacement on both sides.

Winter has historically posed additional challenges in the conflict, with Russian forces in past years targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leaving millions of people facing power and heating shortages during the coldest months.
