Tropical Storm Dujuan Expected to Restrengthen Into Typhoon Near Japan's Izu Islands

According to the Guardian, Tropical Storm Dujuan is skirting the coast of Japan and, despite avoiding a direct landfall on the mainland, is expected to leave its mark on the region.

Dujuan briefly reached typhoon strength on Friday before weakening to a tropical storm on Sunday morning, but it is expected to restrengthen into a typhoon by Tuesday morning, with sustained winds of up to 80 mph (129 km/h) and gusts approaching 100 mph, the report said.

The storm's track takes it across Japan's Izu Islands, where evacuation warnings are in place amid threats of heavy rain, flooding, landslides and high waves, according to the Guardian. The report also notes that the Atlantic hurricane season has been unusually quiet.
