Thousands March in Paris Against Bill Shielding Police Use of Force

Thousands of demonstrators marched in Paris on Sunday to oppose a proposed law that would grant police and gendarmes a presumption of self-defense when they use their weapons, according to Le Monde.

The bill, adopted by French lawmakers on July 7, states that officers are "presumed to have acted" within the law when they "make use of their weapons." Opponents of the measure have described it as a "license to kill," Le Monde reported.
