Türkiye's Defense Ministry has said the country will gradually hand over its Bashiqa-Zilkan military base to Iraq, in a move described as being in line with a previously agreed mechanism and timeline.
The ministry did not provide additional specifics on the exact schedule for the handover or on what arrangements, if any, will follow regarding the base's future use. Military basing arrangements in the region have periodically been a subject of discussion between neighboring governments.
