Full results from the election are not expected until after overseas votes are counted on Wednesday. With 95% of votes counted, the Social Democrats and the centre-left bloc held a narrow but growing lead of 176 seats to the right-leaning parties' 173, the Guardian reported.
Despite the lead, the centre-left bloc faces an internal policy battle as it seeks to form a government, according to the report.
The Guardian said negotiations among the parties were under way as both blocs sought to secure enough support to govern.
Final confirmation of the results is expected once overseas ballots are tallied later this week, which could affect the narrow seat margin between the two blocs.
