The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $24.3 billion sale of F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, according to a notification sent to Congress and reported by Anadolu Agency.

The package includes 48 F-35 fighter jets and 49 engines, the notification said.

Under U.S. arms export procedures, major foreign military sales require the State Department to notify Congress before a deal can proceed. Lawmakers are typically given a review period during which they can raise objections to a proposed sale.

Anadolu Agency did not report further details on the timeline for delivery, the specific F-35 variant involved, or additional equipment that may accompany the sale.

The report did not include comment from Saudi officials or the U.S. Department of Defense on the proposed transaction.
