Speleologists have discovered a new cave on Mount Smotrych in the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine's Carpathian Mountains, identified as the Dzembronia vertical cave and measuring approximately 30 metres in depth.
In a separate finding in the neighbouring Ternopil region, researchers also documented a 50-metre extension to the "Na Khomakh" gypsum cave, adding to the known scale of that existing cave system.
Expanding knowledge of the Carpathian underground
The Carpathian region of Ukraine is known among speleologists for its network of caves, including notable gypsum cave systems that have drawn ongoing exploration and research over the years.
