Six Nigerian nationals allegedly linked to the Black Axe criminal network were extradited to the United States on Friday over accusations they swindled American women out of more than $6m through online romance scams, according to The Guardian.
South African police confirmed the extradition earlier on Friday, the report said, while local African news outlets confirmed that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, facilitated the handover.
The men were transferred to officials from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Secret Service at Cape Town International Airport, in collaboration with Interpol South Africa, according to the report.
