Six Flags permanently closes X2 rollercoaster after brain injury claims

Six Flags has permanently shut down its X2 rollercoaster at Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, the company announced Tuesday, following a wave of claims from past riders alleging serious injuries, according to The Guardian.

More than 100 people have said they were injured by the ride, which reaches speeds of up to 76mph (about 122km/h) and features seats that can rotate 360 degrees. X2 had already been closed since mid-July prior to the permanent shutdown decision.

The Guardian's report described X2 as a longtime favorite at the park, known for its unusual rotating-seat design, which distinguished it from more conventional rollercoasters.

Six Flags has not detailed the specific findings of any internal review into the injury claims, and the company's announcement did not specify what, if anything, will replace the ride at the park.

The permanent closure follows months of scrutiny over the ride's safety record, with affected riders' accounts drawing attention from both media and the public.
