Sisters create 'Sondering' festival celebrating death with live music and swimming

Sisters Sophia and Camilla Minden have created Sondering, a death-themed arts festival running September 18-21 at Rydal in the Lake District. The event features live bands, wild swimming, and an 'emoshpit,' drawing on the sisters' childhood practice of respectfully burying injured animals they found.
Camilla, diagnosed with late-stage Hodgkin's lymphoma shortly after turning 20, was given an 80% survival chance. Her investigation into funeral planning—finding existing options "dated, impersonal and expensive"—and desire to live fully if she survived inspired the festival concept. She says she wanted her theoretical funeral to include "spag bol and quite a lot of Michael Jackson."
