Pakistani security forces killed eight militants belonging to a group described as Fitna al-Khwarij during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Security sources cited by APP said a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other equipment was recovered from the militants during the operation. The sources added that hideouts used by the militants were also destroyed in the course of the raid.

APP's report did not identify the specific security force units involved or provide further details on the exact location within North Waziristan.

North Waziristan, part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the Afghan border, has been a frequent site of Pakistani security operations against militant groups in recent years.
