San Diego State Football Program Managing Mumps Outbreak Before Pac-12 Opener

San Diego State's football program is contending with a mumps outbreak among players as the team prepares for Saturday's Pac-12 conference opener against Texas State.

Mumps is a contagious viral illness that spreads through saliva and respiratory droplets, and outbreaks have periodically affected sports teams and other close-contact group settings because of the close proximity involved in training and travel.

Specific details on how many players have been affected, the team's treatment protocols, or whether any players will be held out of Saturday's game were not included in the available reporting.
