Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, announced that his firm would not enter the public markets in 2026, according to statements reported by Le Monde.

"Given everything happening in the area of safety, the timing would be wrong to go public, and we are not under any pressure to do so," Altman said, as quoted by the newspaper.

The executive did not clarify the specific nature of the artificial intelligence safety concerns he referenced, nor whether this decision could be revisited in the future.

OpenAI, whose ChatGPT ranks among the most widely used generative artificial intelligence products globally, has not announced an alternative timeline for a potential initial public offering.
