Elena Rybakina won her first US Open championship on Saturday, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in New York, according to ESPN.

The victory marked the third Grand Slam title of Rybakina's career and her second major championship win this year, ESPN reported.

The result came as Rybakina continued her rise to the top of women's tennis rankings, according to the report.

Sabalenka, who took the second set 7-5 to extend the match, was unable to close out the contest as Rybakina rallied to win the deciding third set 6-2, ESPN reported.
