Russian Diplomat Says BRICS Ukraine Talks Have Been Substantive
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov says BRICS member states have offered various proposals on Ukraine since the start of what Moscow calls its special military operation.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said discussions on Ukraine among leaders of the BRICS group of nations have been "as substantive as possible," according to a report by the Russian state news agency TASS.
Ryabkov said that throughout the period of what Russia refers to as its "special military operation" in Ukraine, "colleagues from BRICS member states have put forward and promoted their ideas in various formats," TASS reported.
The remarks, attributed to Ryabkov, did not specify particular proposals or which BRICS member states had put forward ideas, nor did they detail any outcomes from the discussions.
BRICS is a grouping that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, among other members added in recent years. The bloc has periodically addressed the conflict in Ukraine, which Russia launched with a full-scale invasion in February 2022.
