Russia says Kiev's reliance on foreign fighters reflects mobilization struggles

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Ukrainian authorities are increasingly relying on foreign mercenaries to fill the ranks of the armed forces, framing the trend as evidence of difficulties in Kyiv's domestic mobilization efforts, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

Zakharova argued that Ukrainian officials are counting on recruiting fighters from abroad to compensate for shortfalls in enlisting Ukrainian citizens, though the statement did not include specific figures on the number of foreign fighters currently serving in Ukraine's military or law enforcement structures.

The comments form part of a broader pattern of statements from Russian officials characterizing Ukraine's mobilization campaign, which has faced documented challenges including draft evasion and public reluctance to enlist as the war, now well into its fourth year, continues.
