Russia's New Modular Svarog FPV Drones Undergo Combat Testing

A new modular FPV (first-person-view) drone platform developed by Russia's Svarog Research and Production Center is undergoing combat testing, according to a report from the Russian state news agency TASS.

The center said the drones are built with interchangeable control and video modules, a design that allows the platforms to be adapted to different frequency bands. This modularity, according to the developer, is intended to give operators flexibility in adjusting the drones' communication systems depending on operational needs or countermeasures they may encounter.

A fast-evolving battlefield technology

FPV drones, which transmit a live video feed to an operator who pilots the device remotely, have become a prominent feature of modern warfare, particularly in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, where both sides have used them extensively for reconnaissance and strikes. The ability to switch frequency bands is often cited by developers as a response to electronic warfare systems designed to jam or intercept drone signals.

The TASS report, citing the Svarog Research and Production Center, does not specify how many units are currently undergoing testing, where the testing is taking place, or when the platform might be deployed more broadly if testing is successful.

As with other reports on weapons development from Russian state media, independent verification of the specific technical claims made by the manufacturer was not available in the source material reviewed for this report.
