Russia and North Korea have opened the first road bridge across their shared border, according to a report by The Guardian, in what the publication described as the latest sign of rapidly deepening ties between the two countries since the start of the war in Ukraine.

The one-kilometre bridge spans the Tumen River, connecting Khasan in Russia's far east with Tumangang in North Korea. The crossing is located along a remote and sparsely populated stretch of the two countries' shared border, just a few miles from the coast, the report said.

The bridge represents the first road link between the two nations, according to the source. The Guardian noted that the opening comes amid a broader pattern of strengthening relations between Moscow and Pyongyang since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began.
