Secretary of State Marco Rubio's tour of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru is reinforcing what RFI described as Washington's ambition for closer control over South America, covering economic ties, drug trafficking and illegal immigration, but above all strengthening the pro-Trump populist arc in the region.
RFI reported the tour coincides with Trump's publication of a US map that for the first time includes Mexico and Cuba, part of what commentator Jean-Jacques Kourliandsky described as a new "Donroe Doctrine."
