French far-right politician Éric Zemmour announced on Friday that he will run in next year's presidential election, according to France 24.
His entry into the race sets up a contest with fellow far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, who was the runner-up to President Emmanuel Macron in the two most recent presidential elections, France 24 reported.
Zemmour is campaigning on a platform focused on a crackdown on immigration, the report said. Among his proposals is a plan to expel unemployed foreigners from France, even those who hold legal residency status, according to France 24.
The announcement adds another contender to the far-right side of France's political spectrum ahead of the 2027 election, alongside Le Pen, who has previously reached the second round of the presidential race against Macron.
