Reform UK has said its agreement with France's National Rally party to return migrants who cross the Channel back to France was fully approved by the party and personally signed off by its president, Jordan Bardella, according to the Guardian.
The deal, unveiled on Friday, was struck between Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Bardella, the 30-year-old protege of French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, the Guardian reported.
The agreement has sparked a backlash in France, with critics saying it runs counter to France's "interests and sovereignty," according to the report.
The Guardian noted that the deal appears to directly contradict Le Pen's long-standing policy of refusing to accept the return of migrants who arrive in the UK via small boats from France.
Reform UK's insistence that the agreement carries the full backing of National Rally's leadership comes as the party faces questions in France over how the arrangement was reached and who authorized it, the Guardian reported.
