A letter published by The Guardian recalled the career of actor Cheryl Hall as a Kent county councillor, written by a former Labour Party colleague who served alongside her. The writer said Hall made an impression on the council after her first win for Labour in Ramsgate South in 1993, and that she held the seat again in 1997.

On the same day as her 1997 council win, Hall unsuccessfully stood as the Labour parliamentary candidate for Canterbury, according to the letter. The writer said Hall used her acting skills to argue forcefully on a no-overall-control council run by Labour and the Liberal Democrats, specializing in arts and culture, and brought a combative approach to debate on what the writer described as a long-overdue-for-change council.
