Anti-immigration protesters gathered outside a hotel in Portsmouth called off their demonstration after discovering that the guests were members of Pakistan's Under-19 cricket team rather than a group of asylum seekers, the Guardian reported.

The gathering followed a larger protest in Portsmouth on Sunday after a boat carrying an estimated 140 asylum seekers arrived at the city's Eastney harbour. A Reform councillor called to the scene said he urged the activists to stand down, according to the report.
