Poland expects a decision on the establishment of a permanent US military base in the country by the end of the year, according to a Polish deputy defense minister cited by Anadolu Agency.
"Final decision, of course, belongs to President Trump, and we keep repeating that," the deputy defense minister said.
Poland has for several years sought a permanent, rather than rotational, US military presence on its territory as part of broader efforts to strengthen its security posture amid heightened tensions with Russia following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
A permanent base would mark a shift from the current arrangement, under which US forces rotate through Poland, and would be seen by Warsaw as a stronger long-term security guarantee.
