Between July 27 and August 20, the heat wave resulted in more than 800 "excess" deaths in France, according to data from France's Public Health Agency. These deaths add to the 7,300 already recorded since the end of May, during the summer's initial heat waves.
The overall toll of heat-related excess deaths thus stands at more than 8,100 since the beginning of the summer season.
