Pitt loses starting QB Mason Heintschel for season to torn ACL

University of Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Heintschel will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL, the school announced, according to ESPN.

Heintschel has been considered one of the top young quarterbacks in college football this season, and the injury represents a significant blow to Pitt's offense as the team navigates the remainder of its schedule. The Panthers described the news as heartbreaking, reflecting the impact of losing their starting signal-caller for the year.

Anterior cruciate ligament tears are among the most serious injuries in football, typically requiring surgery and an extended recovery period that extends well beyond a single season. Teams that lose a starting quarterback to such an injury must often turn to backup options for the remainder of their campaign.

Pitt has not yet detailed its plans at the quarterback position following Heintschel's injury. The loss comes at a pivotal point in the college football season, with teams across the country jockeying for position in conference standings and postseason consideration.

Further updates on Heintschel's recovery timeline and Pitt's quarterback plans are expected as the team continues its season.
