Philippe reaches out to right and center for 2027 bid; Retailleau declines
Former French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe launched his 2027 presidential campaign committee, inviting rival candidates to join talks, an offer Bruno Retailleau has declined, according to RFI.
Edouard Philippe convened his first campaign political committee in Paris on September 8, joined by ministers who have rallied to his candidacy, including Gerald Darmanin and Maud Bregeon, as well as former conservative prime minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, RFI reported.
Philippe reached out to his competitors, proposing to form a joint committee with a first meeting envisioned for early November, according to the report. Bruno Retailleau has already declined the offer.
