Pakistan Post, Alibaba Agree to Automate Parcel Sorting Centres
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication says the deal aims to modernise postal infrastructure under a government-backed technology drive.
The Pakistan Post Office Department (PPOD) and Alibaba Group have agreed to automate parcel sorting operations at Pakistan Post facilities, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
The agreement is part of a government-backed initiative to modernise postal operations, improve technology-based services and upgrade postal infrastructure, APP reported.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication is leading the collaboration between the two sides, according to APP, which said the effort is being carried out under directives from the prime minister.
Details on the timeline, cost and scope of the automation project, including which sorting centres will be upgraded first, were not immediately available from the report.
APP did not provide further specifics on the technical aspects of the automation or the terms of the agreement between Pakistan Post and Alibaba Group.
