ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has boycotted its scheduled match against Israel at the 46th FIDE World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
The Chess Federation of Pakistan said the decision was based on the country's policy towards Israel and reflected solidarity with the Palestinian people, APP reported.
The Pakistan-Israel match had been scheduled for Wednesday in the opening round of the international team chess event, according to the report.
APP did not provide further details on how the boycott would affect the tournament standings or whether Pakistan would forfeit points for the match.
