Pakistani American painter Salman Toor spoke to the Guardian ahead of his first solo exhibition in Europe, at London's Courtauld Gallery.

Toor's paintings depict queer South Asian men in everyday and social settings, and the artist told the newspaper he wants those figures to take center stage rather than remain a secondary narrative.

The Guardian noted Toor has previously painted New York politician Zohran Mamdani among his subjects.
