The high-profile trial of Rachida Dati opened Wednesday, September 16 in Paris, according to France 24. The former MEP is being tried alongside former Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, who was absent from the hearing.

The two defendants are being prosecuted on suspicion of corruption and influence-trafficking, related to a sum of 900,000 euros that Rachida Dati allegedly received from the automaker while serving as a member of the European Parliament, the source notes.

According to information reported by France 24 journalist Pauline Godart, the hearing took place without the presence of Carlos Ghosn, who remains subject to international arrest warrants since his escape from Japan in 2019.

The course of the trial and its judicial consequences have not yet been clarified at this stage.
