The Victorian One Nation leader acknowledged making "mistakes" in his 20s, including use of ecstasy, methamphetamines and marijuana, as well as losing his licence multiple times for drink driving. Pickering stated his actions "hurt people I loved, and I will live with that forever."
Pickering denied allegations published by The Australian that he smoked crystal meth in front of children and said he was considering legal action against the publication. Guardian Australia and the ABC were barred from attending the press conference.
