Nicolas Winding Refn, the Danish filmmaker known for violent films including "Drive" and "The Neon Demon," underwent heart surgery and requested that surgeons film the procedure. According to Refn, the surgical team initially declined but agreed after learning it was his request.
Refn told The Guardian that the experience has inspired a new sci-fi horror project and has revived his creative drive after losing the will to direct. He described the surgeon as "the Tom Cruise of surgeons" and credited the life-saving operation with triggering what he called an "astonishing creative rebirth."
