Newcastle coach Jaissle reflects on lessons learned after childhood tumour

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has spoken about the lasting impact of a tumour he was diagnosed with at the age of five, which at one point left him unable to move his neck, according to the BBC.

Despite the early health scare, Jaissle went on to have a playing career before transitioning into coaching, a path that has now brought him to Tyneside as head coach of Newcastle United.

A formative early experience

The BBC report describes the childhood illness as a significant early experience in Jaissle's life, one that came well before his footballing career took shape. Details of his diagnosis, treatment and recovery were not further specified in the available report.

Jaissle's journey from player to coach has included roles that ultimately led to his appointment at Newcastle, where he now leads the first team.
