The review describes the new version as more downbeat and ruminative than its predecessor, set against cloudier weather and lacking the earlier film's celebratory final wedding scene. It notes the casting of Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles departs from expectations, comparing the pair to two women who knew each other at university and now share a flat in London.
The story follows Mrs Dashwood and her three daughters as they are forced from their Sussex estate to a modest cottage in Devon after Mrs Dashwood's stepson inherits the property.
