Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Tuesday that the alliance faces the “most dangerous and complex security environment in a generation,” calling for greater military and financial commitment from the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe.
Speaking during a visit to the UK, Rutte said Nato needs “more UK and more Europe in the alliance” to address current geopolitical uncertainty, according to remarks reported by The Guardian.
Rutte praised Britain for pledging to increase defence spending in line with demands from the United States, following a meeting with Prime Minister Andy Burnham. However, he argued that the military and financial effort must be sustained over the long term rather than treated as a one-time commitment.
