NASA Says Crew-14 Mission Including Russian Cosmonaut Is Set for 2027

NASA has said that its Crew-14 mission, which will include a Russian cosmonaut alongside astronauts from the United States and Japan, is scheduled to launch in 2027.

According to the space agency, the crew will also comprise astronauts from NASA itself and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), continuing a long-standing pattern of international cooperation aboard crewed missions to the International Space Station.

The inclusion of a Russian cosmonaut on the mission reflects the continuation of the joint crew-flight arrangement between NASA and Roscosmos, under which astronauts and cosmonauts have flown on each other's spacecraft for several years, even as relations between Washington and Moscow have remained strained on other fronts.

International cooperation in orbit

Crew rotation missions to the International Space Station typically carry four crew members and spend roughly six months in orbit, conducting scientific research and maintaining station systems. NASA has not yet released the full roster of astronauts assigned to Crew-14 or further details on the mission's specific objectives.

The agency's statement did not specify the exact launch date within 2027 or the spacecraft that will be used for the mission.
