NASA's Curiosity Rover Marks 5,000 Martian Days on Mars

NASA's Curiosity rover has completed 5,000 Martian days, or sols, of operations on Mars, according to a mission blog post published on the agency's website and written by William Farrand, a senior research scientist at the Space Science Institute.

The post, which covers the mission's activities across sols 4995 through 5001, states that the rover has also passed the one-kilometer mark in elevation gained from its original landing site on the floor of Gale Crater, a milestone the blog describes as making Curiosity a "world-class" mountaineer by Martian standards.

According to the blog, the Earth planning date associated with this update is listed as Friday, Aug. 28, 2026. NASA has not provided additional details beyond the excerpt describing the sol count and elevation milestone.
