More than 35 additional women have come forward with fraud allegations against Daejon Love, the man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and wealthy investor to defraud women he met on dating apps, the FBI announced on Friday.
Federal authorities had previously said Love, 35, conned more than two dozen women out of a combined $1.3m. Many of the alleged victims were contacted through dating apps, according to the FBI.
Love and an alleged accomplice, Taylor Chan, 18, who authorities say posed as his financial adviser, were arrested in August. Both have been charged with wire fraud in connection with the scheme, federal prosecutors said.
The FBI said the new tally of more than 35 additional women reporting similar allegations suggests the scope of the alleged fraud may be larger than initially disclosed. The bureau did not immediately provide further details on the new complaints or say whether additional charges were being considered.
The case remains under investigation, according to federal authorities.
