Middle East braces for possible escalation as Iran alleges US is planning renewed strikes

Governments across the Middle East are bracing for a possible escalation of violence after Iran claimed it had received intelligence that the United States was preparing a renewed bombing campaign against it, according to The Guardian.

Tensions have grown after President Donald Trump told Fox News he was considering "wiping Iran out" following attacks on Riyadh attributed to Houthi rebels, The Guardian reported. Trump cut short a weekend visit to the Camp David presidential retreat on Sunday without an official explanation, and the State Department issued a new security alert to US citizens in the Middle East, according to the newspaper.

The developments come ahead of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York this week, The Guardian noted.
