Michelle Bachelet, a former president of Chile, has withdrawn her candidacy to become the next secretary-general of the United Nations after her support collapsed in a Security Council straw poll, according to The Guardian.

Bachelet, 74, announced the decision in a video posted to Instagram on Saturday, saying she would continue, "with the same determination as always," her international work, The Guardian reported.

Her withdrawal leaves seven candidates remaining in the contest, according to the report.
