Michael Kiwanuka says he faces 'long, tough journey' to recovery after stroke
The Mercury Prize-winning singer-songwriter said a 'quite severe' brain bleed was the reason he missed tour dates supporting Mumford & Sons this year.

British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has revealed that he suffered a stroke earlier this year, saying he now faces a "long, tough journey" toward recovery.
The 39-year-old Mercury Prize winner, known for songs including "Cold Little Heart" and "Home Again," said the stroke was caused by a "quite severe" bleed in his brain, which was brought on by high blood pressure.
Kiwanuka explained that the health issue was the reason he had missed several scheduled support slots with Mumford & Sons earlier this year, dates that had previously gone unexplained to fans.
The London-born musician has not provided a detailed timeline for his recovery, but described the road ahead as difficult, while indicating he is undergoing the process of rehabilitation.
Kiwanuka's disclosure has drawn attention within the music community to the seriousness of his condition, as well as broader awareness around stroke risk factors such as high blood pressure.
