Rhys made history as the first actor ever to win two best lead Emmy awards in a single night, the Guardian reported. During his acceptance speech, he paid tribute to his Welsh roots, saying: “To the great and good people of Wales, who were as much a nurturer as anyone else. We are a small but mighty nation.”

The actor, who is originally from Wales and now lives in New York, also thanked his homeland in Welsh, saying “Diolch yn fawr iawn,” meaning “thank you very much,” according to the report.
