Malaysia Condemns Latest Incursion Into Al-Aqsa Mosque, Calls for UN Action

Malaysia has condemned what it described as the latest incursion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli individuals and senior officials, calling on the United Nations Security Council to act on the matter.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur urged the Security Council to compel what it referred to as the "Zionist Israeli regime" to immediately cease what it called deliberate and flagrant violations at the site, which is sacred to Muslims and sits atop a location also revered in Judaism as the Temple Mount.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound has long been a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with visits by Israeli officials and civilians to the site periodically drawing condemnation from Palestinian authorities and some Muslim-majority countries, who view such visits as provocative or as violations of the status quo governing access to the holy site.
