Mahler Academy Orchestra Review: A Trailblazing Prom Performance

The Mahler Academy Orchestra performed at London's Royal Albert Hall as part of the Proms season, using antique instruments and period technique to recreate the sound world Mahler himself would have known, The Guardian reported.
The orchestra, led by conductor Philipp von Steinaecker, sourced antique Viennese brass and woodwind, French harps, Turkish cymbals and oversized tubular bells to replicate the instruments and playing styles of Mahler's era, according to the review.
