Madelin et Feldman : la souveraineté populaire doit être limitée par l'État de droit
Deux figures libérales répondent aux critiques du candidat Retailleau contre les garde-fous constitutionnels.
L'ancien ministre Alain Madelin et l'avocat Jean-Philippe Feldman défendent dans une tribune au Monde le principe selon lequel la souveraineté populaire ne peut être absolue. Ils estiment que « rien n'autorise le peuple à fouler aux pieds les droits les plus sacrés des individus ».
Cette prise de position intervient en réaction aux critiques adressées à l'État de droit par Bruno Retailleau, candidat de Les Républicains à l'élection présidentielle, qui remet en question certains mécanismes de limitation du pouvoir démocratique.
