French President Emmanuel Macron described his meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday at Trump Tower in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session, as "very constructive".
The two heads of state exchanged for nearly thirty minutes on several major international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine, according to reports.
Among the topics discussed was how to "better secure" oil sites in the Red Sea, a concern shared by several Western powers amid ongoing regional tensions affecting shipping routes and energy infrastructure.
The two leaders also discussed continued support for Kyiv in the face of Russia, a topic that has remained at the heart of diplomatic talks between Western allies since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, an annual meeting that brings together many heads of state and government in New York and often serves as a framework for informal bilateral exchanges on the major international issues of the day.
