French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed France's sovereignty over the archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon in the North Atlantic upon his arrival on Saturday evening, according to France 24.
Macron is set to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the visit, his first to the overseas territory, France 24 reported.
The trip comes weeks after US President Donald Trump posted a photo on social media showing the region covered by the American flag, according to France 24.
