Lowe's to Launch Drone Delivery Service With DoorDash and Alphabet's Wing

The home-improvement retailer is partnering with DoorDash and Alphabet's drone unit Wing to offer drone-based deliveries, CNBC reported.

Home-improvement retailer Lowe's is launching a drone delivery service in partnership with DoorDash and Alphabet's drone delivery unit Wing, according to a report by CNBC. The move places Lowe's among a growing number of retailers experimenting with aerial delivery as an alternative to traditional last-mile shipping.

Wing, a subsidiary of Google parent company Alphabet, has built out drone delivery operations with several retail partners in recent years, positioning itself as an infrastructure provider for companies seeking to add drone-based options without building the technology themselves. DoorDash, primarily known for food and retail delivery through human couriers, has separately explored drone and autonomous delivery partnerships as it expands its logistics offerings.

Expanding the Delivery Toolkit

For Lowe's, the partnership represents an extension of its delivery capabilities, potentially allowing customers to receive smaller home-improvement items more quickly than through conventional shipping or in-store pickup. The CNBC report did not specify the initial markets where the drone delivery service will launch, the range of products eligible for drone delivery, or a specific launch date.

Retail drone delivery has expanded gradually in the United States in recent years as regulatory approvals and operational trials have progressed, with several major retailers now offering the service in select markets.
